Nathan Mersereau, CFP®

President

Birmingham, MI & Jackson Hole, WY

Nathan Mersereau grew up in Canada as the youngest of five children in an entrepreneurial family. After earning degrees from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor, he began his career at American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise). In 2004, he founded Oakland Wealth Management, which was later acquired by Planning Alternatives. Today, Nathan serves as President and CEO, leading the firm as it helps clients align wealth with purpose.

With more than 30 years of experience advising ultra-high-net-worth families, Nathan has seen firsthand that financial success does not always equal fulfillment. His 2025 TEDx talk, Redefining Wealth and Fulfillment, introduced the True Wealth Paradigm—six life currencies that shape purpose, well-being, and legacy. He is passionate about helping families with generational wealth transfer, ensuring that values and vision are carried forward alongside financial assets. Nathan is also actively involved in YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization), the world’s largest leadership community of chief executives, where he serves as Chapter Chair of YPO Global One.

Memorable client moment

Nathan recalls working with a young entrepreneur who had lost faith in the financial industry after being burned by advisors. By building a transparent plan rooted in his family’s best interests, Nathan helped restore his confidence and allow him to focus on what mattered most: growing his tech business and spending time with his loved ones.

What does true wealth mean to you?

“True wealth is living with a sense of freedom—being present where purpose, inspiration, and impact show up in life. It’s trusting that every relationship and decision is part of a bigger story, and staying curious about how I can support others on their journey.”

Outside of work, Nathan is married to Michele and enjoys time with their two grown daughters. He also has a passion for travel, skiing, and exploring how wealth can be a tool for creating lasting impact.
