As a client of Planning Alternatives, you are invited to attend our 2018 Photo Contest. Guests are welcome!

LOCATION: The Detroit Zoo, Wildlife Interpretive Gallery and Butterfly House

 

ARRIVAL TIME: 6:00 P.M.

The Detroit Zoo gates will open for Photo Event guests promptly at 6:00 p.m.
Due to the Detroit Zoo’s public hours, they are unable to allow event guests into the park earlier.

2018 THEME: Splash of Color

A “splash of color” brings a photo to life, enhancing the meaning and emotion of an image. Our contest theme promises to deliver an inspired collection of photographs.

PHOTO JUDGE: Monte Nagler

Photos will be judged by renowned photographer, Monte Nagler. At the event, Monte will review his choice of selected photos, explain why he chose the shots — and where appropriate — provide suggestions for improving or enhancing your images.

CONTEST DETAILS AND RULES:

 

  • The contest is open only to clients of Planning Alternatives. However, we welcome clients to bring guests who may enjoy the event.

  • Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible, or 300 dpi at 3,000 pixels on the longest side. Photographs must be in a .jpeg, .jpg or .png format. Files submitted may not be larger than 10 MB.

  • Please title your photos. Because we protect confidentiality, each photo will be assigned a number/letter code to correspond with the individual entry. The title of the photo will be referenced when announcing winners, and clients’ names will be kept confidential.

  • Each individual client, within a household, may submit up to 3 photos.

  • No individual client can win more than once in each category. Categories include Top Winners, Honorable Mention and Special Recognition.

  • Photos must be the work/product of the entrants. Copyrighted photos are prohibited unless copyrighted by the entrants.

  • Photos can be sent via email in one of the formats specified above, or by regular mail. If sent by regular mail, Planning Alternatives will scan the photos and return them. Please, no oversized photos larger than 11 x 14.

  • Clients need not be present to submit photos or win a prize.

  • Clients need not submit photos to attend the event.

  • Employees of Planning Alternatives may submit photos but are disqualified from receiving any prizes.

  • Photos must be appropriate for a broad group including viewing online and marketing purposes. Submitting photos implies permission for these purposes. Planning Alternatives reserves the right not to display any photos it deems objectionable based on its sole discretion.

  • Prizes to be announced.

  • Prizes will be mailed to winners who are not present.


Tips for capturing a winning photo:

  • Be patient, wait for the right moment.
  • Be aware of the mood you’re in while shooting.
  • Crop and simplify the main subject of the image you’re shooting.
  • If you’re photographing people, focus on your subjects’ faces, especially their eyes.
  • Proper use of light can enhance your photo.
  • Watch for the “in-between” moments.
